The students of Canadian International School, Bangalore had initiated a project "Brush of Kindness” today in association with an NGO called “Habitat for Humanity" 54 IB1 students (Grade 11) students along with their CAS Coordinator Ms. Priya Anand & and three staff members painted houses for the below poverty line (BPL) families in Bangalore in a village called Basavalingappa Nagar near Hegdenagar.

Students had raised funds for this project through a Walkathon that involved students from K-12. SCA members of the school also donated to the cause. Around Rs. 50,000 was collected from the secondary students and the SCA members and was donated to Habitat for the project.

Habitat for Humanity India is a non-profit organization that builds homes and provides housing-related services to low-income, marginalized families across India.

Community initiative is an integral part of CIS. This is just one of the projects undertaken by students as part of the IB CAS program at CIS. Through the CAS (Creativity, Action, and Service) programme, all students at CIS are given opportunities to develop awareness of different communities and their needs.

Each year it gives me immense pleasure to see the joy on the faces of the families when they see their houses getting a fresh coat of paint. Our students also enjoy the physical labour though they complain of arm pain at the end of the day”, said Priya Anand, Community Service Coordinator of CIS.

It is an amazing opportunity to be able to help the less fortunate even though it is just a small gesture of painting” said Nida Ajmal (IB1 Student).

I am happy to be given a chance to contribute my time and effort to a wonderful charitable cause,” said Kunal Sharma (IB1 Student).
